Eri: Assam is the parent state for the cultivation of Eri silk which is also known as the Ahimsa silk as the process of yarn extraction does not require the moth to be killed. The rural womenfolk particularly the tribal women of Assam are traditionally equipped for Eri culture. The climate of the Northeast particularly Assam and Meghalaya is suitable for Eri silk rearing.

“TAKURI” is an initiative with a unique identity which emphasizes on development of the entire value chain of Eri, right from plantation of food crop to the marketing of finished products. 90% of the activities conducted under the project follow the organic process. It is committed towards reviving a scarcely practiced tradition and making it a sustainable and profitable venture for the communities involved.
