Barmanipur Village Gears Up for Sustainable Livelihoods with Azim Premji Foundation’s Support
In a bid to bolster sustainable livelihoods and economic resilience in Barmanipur village, Marigaon district, the Azim Premji Foundation (APF) has extended its support to Project Samartha. A Community Mobilization Meeting programme aimed at fostering the adoption of income-generating activities rooted in local resources was organsied on Febryuary 1, 2024.
The community meeting served as a crucial platform for Barmanipur residents to deliberate on the scope and potential of various income-generating initiatives tailored to the village’s unique resources and needs. With a focus on the forthcoming season, participants engaged in insightful discussions to identify promising avenues for enhancing their livelihoods.
Among the initiatives discussed, the distribution of HDPE vermibags emerged as a notable strategy to promote vermicompost production as a sustainable alternative source of income. These high-density polyethylene (HDPE) vermibags were distributed among villagers, signaling a tangible step towards embracing eco-friendly practices while simultaneously providing a viable avenue for generating revenue.
Project Samartha, backed by the Azim Premji Foundation, represents a collaborative effort to empower rural communities like Barmanipur with the resources and knowledge needed to chart a path towards self-sufficiency and prosperity. By harnessing local resources and fostering community engagement, initiatives like these not only stimulate economic growth but also promote environmental stewardship, laying the foundation for a sustainable future.
